Maybe it's time to rebrand yourself at work: 5 questions for self -reflection.

Whether you realise it or not, you are in charge of you.

If you're working you definitely have a reputation with your peers, bosses & anyone else you interact within the day to day work life.

If you've done your role for over a year maybe 2 people have already labelled you, heck first impressions are made within 30 seconds of any interaction.

Sometimes you find yourself in that awkward situation where you've started receiving negative feedback from your boss, snide comments here and there from your colleagues about your work. " That's how so& so always is, so & so never gets anything done on time, You have to keep reminding so & o things, he/she's a bit slow ........

Some people have thick skin to let all that slide but if you're like most such comments can start to weigh down on you.

You'll find your self-esteem starting to take a hit,

You'll no longer feel comfortable speaking up in meetings. Self-doubt will start creeping in and soon enough you'll no longer feel as if you belong.

Yes, your boss may be mean, but are you partially to blame?

Times like these are when you get that nagging feeling you need to change roles. Or maybe not.

Could be you need to start working towards rebranding yourself internally.

Here are 5 questions to ask yourself should you find yourself in such a position.

  1. What are your personal values & what new skills do you need to uplevel?

  2. What can you start doing now based on the feedback you have?

  3. Is there any project/assignment you can immediately pick to show the upgraded you?

  4. Who's keeping you accountable during this redefining moment?

  5. Do you have the will power to sit through the change or would you rather a fresh start?

Remember people are quick to form opinions about you but slow to change them.

You've worked too hard to get to where you are. So instead of seeing all your hard work go to waste because you're misaligned with the company values, introspect and come up with actions to steer yourself right back on track.

If you don't define your brand, other people will define it for you so take charge!

Hugs,

Linda O.
